If you want to utilize SSG as a conditioning tool, the following might help you to ensure progression and consistency in your approach.
First of all if you have not read my separate section on “ALL about SSG” it would be recommended to do so CLICK HERE to get to the page.
If you have done it, you will recognize some of the rules and restriction that can be applied to alter the physical/physiological demands of the game.

From a scientific point of view, Small-Sided-Games (SSG) provide reliable internal- (such as HR, RPE, and blood lactate concentration) and external responses (such as total distance covered) and therefore can be used as a conditioning format (39).
As mentioned on previous sites, SSG seem to have many advantages (such as football specific movement, technical training, possible tactical improvements and inherent high motivational factors for
training) over other conditioning formats (13, 16, 20, 25, 35). It seems that coaches, who in particular have only limited amount of time with the players, might benefit from SSG as they might
increase the efficacy of training (39) and even reduce the total training time because of the multi-functionality of SSGs (13, 38), especially in youth players (40).
Besides improvements in the aerobic endurance (9, 25, 28, 29, 36), and anaerobic endurance (29).....

Manchester United has been holding its mid-season training camp at Doha/Qatar 2013 since last Sunday. We have visited a training session and want to give an insight into the warm-up/training session of their goalkeepers.
The total length of their first part was ~45 minutes.
Besides a more general and individually performed initial 5-8 minute beginning, consisting of jogging and other running forms, the video below shows the rest and more goalkeeping specific part of
the session.
After the initial ~45 minutes the goalkeepers joined in the small-sided games of the team.

We watched a strength-training session of FC Bayern Munich during their training camp at Doha/Qatar two weeks ago.
This session followed the previous released warm-up session as the main part of the training session.
The setup consisted of 6 stations. Each station was performed ~1 minute in length followed by a 1 minute recovery period. All players went through the entire strength-training circle 3 times. The 27 players were “equally” divided in groups of 4-5 and the set-up of the circle was an area on the football pitch of ~35 x 15 meters.
