Player development ranking for the 2014 FIFA World Cup

Another interesting statistics from the CIES Football observatory.

The statistics takes into account the number of World Cup participants trained per nation, per club as well the number of leagues matches played by footballers per team up to the age of 23.

In order to be recognized as a club, their players needed to be at least 3 years at the club between the age of 15 and 21.

Players per nation
France tops the table with England and Germany in second and third place respectively. 56 players accumulated 6255 matches until U23 status in France. The report argues that the high number of footballers trained in France is due to the players playing for African countries.

Players per club
At the top of the table sits Feyenord Rotterdam with 9 players participating in the World Cup. Barcelona ad Deportivo Saprissa have equal number, however the players accumulated 882 matches at Feyenord until the age of 23, while the players at Barcelona accumulated 783 games and 445 at Deportiva Saprissa.

The Ajax school is at place 4, Lille OSC, ManUnited come in 5th and 6th rank respectively. Here are some other famous clubs: Bayern Munich (10), Real Madrid (11), FC Porto (12), Arsenal (13) and Udinese Calcio is the first Italian club at 25th place. The list shows a total number of 817 clubs/Universities with Philadelphia Union holding the last position.
